reaching out for support can make all the difference.

Meet Dr. Winder

I specialize in helping successful, busy adults who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain about how to move forward and often experience stress and conflict in family or other important relationships. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals managing demanding careers, relationships, and personal responsibilities, yet often feel something is missing.

Common concerns include anxiety, sadness, relationship struggles, or a general sense of not feeling like yourself. I provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you explore your emotions and work toward clarity and healing.

With over 20 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist and Certified Divorce & Family Mediator, I integrate emotional processing with practical, solution-focused strategies. I help clients address unresolved emotional challenges, clarify their feelings, and develop healthier thought patterns. My work focuses on fostering mental clarity, internal peace, and emotional presence in daily life.

Together, we can work toward mental clarity, inner peace, and meaningful changes in your life. Take the first step and schedule an initial consultation today. You don’t have to navigate this alone!

I use a personalized approach tailored to your unique needs. My work methods include:

Cognitive exercises

Behavioral strategies

Motivational strategies

All designed to create practical, measurable progress.

I collaborate with clients to identify meaningful goals, develop structured plans, and implement strategies to achieve lasting change.

I offer in-person sessions at my Hewlett, NY office and secure virtual therapy for clients who prefer the convenience of being able to access therapy remotely.

Specifics about my therapy services

My fees

Individual therapy
$250 per session

Couples/marital/
divorce mediation

$400 per hour

If there is a need for any additional services such as documentation, consultation with other professionals, etc., those fees will be discussed and agreed to in writing prior to their being provided, so you’ll never be surprised by an unexpected expense.

I always keep a limited number of slots available for reduced-fee clients; if you are in financial distress and would like to be placed on the waiting list for a timeslot, please reach out by email or using the contact form on this website.

Do you take my insurance?

Sounds like a simple question but it’s actually a bit more involved. Insurance companies only pay for therapy they consider “medically necessary,” which unfortunately severely limits the scope of effective work they will pay for. I am in network with Aetna and a few UHC plans, so if you have a diagnosed psychiatric disorder, they will likely cover at least an intake session, and during that session we can discuss the options moving forward.

Insurance does not pay for couples mediation or any therapy sessions that aren’t focused on treating the symptoms of a diagnosed psychiatric illness as defined by the ICD-10. Also, if you have an insurance plan that offers out-of-network benefits, our office will be happy to supply you with a superbill that you can try to use to get reimbursement. If you have questions about insurance-related matters, please reach out to the office by phone or email.

Virtual therapy

Videoconference sessions are conducted using Google Meet, which is really easy to use from any device or computer. It’s HIPAA-compliant and secure. You can join either by video or by phone if you prefer.

Counseling hours

I offer early morning sessions starting 5:40 AM for people who want to meet before work, and late afternoon/evening slots for people who want to meet afterwards. Obviously, the non-business hour timeslots are in much higher demand, so if you want to be seen with minimal delay and can create some flexibility during working hours, that would increase the chances of an appointment being available sooner.

Are you ready to start therapy?

Start now with a free initial consultation

The decision to start therapy is not an easy one, I get that. That’s why I invite you to a free initial video consultation.

The purpose of this 10-20 minute meeting is to see if we’re a good fit for each other and strategize how to help you best – we’ll talk about what you’re hoping to accomplish by seeing me, and you can ask me anything you’d like about my practice, training, experience, or whatever else you’d like to know. I’m looking forward to talking to you!
